Innovation in Tech in Kenya
Eunice Nyandat returned to Kenya from studying overseas, to enter a vibrant and exciting world of tech and start ups. Eunice shares some insight into how sophisticated the tech market is in Kenya and introduced me to the phrase ‘Silicon Savannah’ used to describe the $1 billion tech hub of over more than 200 start ups in Nairobi.
Eunice uses her experience to help start ups, and is involved in both innovation workshops and supporting start up weekends particularly focussed on women innovators and entrepreneurs. As is typical world wide, there are too few women making progress in the tech field and in Kenya, families still try to steer young girls towards traditional female roles.
Besides her work with start ups, Eunice also consults to larger companies, helping them to consider their tech and online security needs.
Eunice is very excited about the future of this space for Kenya and the state of innovation in Nairobi. We also discussed the ability of people who's first innovation attempts fail, to refocuss and attempt another project.
