The VP of Public Relations, Nonhlanhla Chanza, at my Toastmaster Club, The Breakfast Club arranged for an interview for me with the Career Times of our local newspaper. They wanted to know what a professional speaking career looked like, and this is the resulting article.

I was very pleased to be able to include references to the main players, not only Toastmasters where so many of us do our learning, but also our local Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa, (PSASA) which is a member of the Global Speakers Federation.

Just as I write this post, my husband Richard Mulvey, and I are in Washington to attend both the American National Speakers Association (NSA) meeting as well as the annual Global Speakers Federation Council meeting.

Connecting with our colleagues in another part of the world allows us to learn two things simultaneously, and this is beyond the valuable content and advice they share. We learn, from our global colleagues, how different some of their experiences are, how vast are their opportunities, how interesting are their challenges. And at the same time we learn how similar they are to ours, and how close they are to us, how exciting are our own opportunities.

I urge you, if you want to develop your speaking skills, to connect find your local Toastmasters club and start to develop your speaking skills and confidence.

If you are considering a speaking career, then find your local body, network with your speaking colleagues, and enjoy this wonderful industry.
