Guide your team towards the future with confidence
- Learn a process to consider futures changes, disruptions and technologies - Understand trends and scenarios - Learn how to guide a public conversation to avoid hyperbole and fear-mongering - Find opportunities for your company to innovate or stay relevant to your clients in a changing business landscape If you want to be the leader who can calm fears about losing hundreds of thousands of jobs to automation and AI, and be the leader who finds ways to be agile and innovative, finding new clients and new revenue streams, and if you want to learn how to do this in private so that you can lead in public with confidence, then consider a limited term coaching programme to develop a futures plan for your team. If you are in a leadership position and anxious about the future of your organisation, overwhelmed by technological developments or bewildered by values shifts, then you are not alone. You are in the company of other leaders who are also looking for a way to find some personal direction in the storm, and then a way to help their teams respond.
There is a model to navigate the futureI assure that there is a way forward, a model to help your team navigate the challenges and make realistic progress, and that I can teach it to you. While I don’t believe in inflammatory remarks to scare people into making decisions, it is evident that deciding to learn how best to approach the future is a decision that should be made sooner rather than later. Like any problem that has a long term consequence - health, weight, financial success - small, initial changes can make a huge impact in where you will end up and a course correction now can save your business or position you for success. I’ve been through this before. I have lost a business because I failed to act against anticipated threats to my company. I have had to reinvent myself twice in the course of my career. And I have worked with others who have gone through similar situations. The biggest lesson I learned through these business losses, is that our stories are so similar, and that it is only the number of zero’s on the end of our problem, that is different. We can learn from other people’s failures, and we can put measures in place to avoid them.
In the course of learning better solutions to common business problems, I discovered the field of futures studies and strategic foresight. This academic field may sound daunting but it has robust and practical tools to anticipate change, develop scenarios to respond and identify indicators to help you choose a path to follow.
It is a journey to the futureTo illustrate this journey, I have chosen a set of tools contained in a compass, to help us find direction along a journey planned out on a map. I often hear two concerns, the first being that its impossible to tell the future and its a wasted effort. Well over course we aren’t trying to ‘tell’ the future. We aren’t fortune tellers, but there are models that can help us make better choices. The second is the terminology. ’Strategic foresight’ may sound like an daunting phrase, but we all naturally do this every day. We look at trends, plan scenarios and choose a course of action. This is not too difficult to apply to our businesses. All we need is an awareness of the process and familiarity with the tools.
So what do you need to do this?- A map to follow to chose your path towards the future - A compass to give you direction by providing you with tools - A guide to help you navigate this futures journey, in the same way that you will become the guide for the team leading change in your own organisation
This coaching is for you if you want to learn some skills in private that you can then use in public with your team. You need to be a few steps ahead of them to help them cope with or be innovative about the future. So you don’t want to be learning this at the same time as them. If all this coaching did was give you the confidence to handle your teams concerns about future threats, if all it did was give you the mental space to anticipate new areas and opportunities for growth, if all it did was help you to dismiss click bait fear mongering with disdain and lean into real areas of concerns, then would the coaching be worth it to you?
